MLtek is a UK based company that produces a variety of programs with the goal of tackling various IT infrastructure tasks. All of our staff have had experience working in IT infrastructure positions and are aware of the unique tasks this field presents. ‘MLtek’ have been around since the early 2000’s, providing both off the shelf and bespoke software solutions to companies all around the world. Each one of our software solutions are intended to offer a simple, effective, and unique answer to a difficult problem. Their most popular product has been their file archiving software for network file systems, ‘ArchiverFS’.

Latest version

The latest version of ArchiverFS now also contains better support for non-Windows storage thus giving users the ability to deactivate the determination of file level NTFS audit settings when files are archived. The capability to stay with these entries is dependent on the “’Manage Audit Log Entries” (‘SeSecurity’) user rights that are granted to the account that is doing the archiving, which is extremely tricky especially on non-Windows storage ranges such as EMC VNX arrays. This version of ArchiverFS uses this new element together with several other improvements and is a highly praised upgrade for all clients irrespective of the storage they are currently using.

New reporting module

MLtek has wanted to refit the reporting ability in ArchiverFS for quite some time now, and it gives us great pride to announce that phase 1 is finally finished. This version 3.471 includes the new statistics collection feature that does away with the separate reporting assistance, leading to improved performance as well as better scalability.

Save time and money

Have you ever sat there and wondered why there is not a simple yet effective way to tackle the years and years’ worth of old files that have gathered on your file server? Why do all the products currently available rotate around trying to control a database to deal with what is essentially a file system problem? This is where ArchiverFS is different working at the file system level giving clients a controlled way to transmit all old and unused files to 2nd tier storage, without trying to store up files, or any pointers to files, nor even file metadata information in a database. There is no use of a database in this system.

Features you get

You get all the attributes you would expect such as:

• Seamless stubs able to remain in a place of old files that have been migrated.
• Reporting functions.
• Choices on how to control files are migrated such as file size, age, type, etc.
• Capacity to compress files once migrated.

Unique feature

Unlike other file archiving software Archiver’s unique feature is that is does not use any database for storing files, pointers to files, or file meta-data. Rather this program uses pure NTFS (or REFS) from beginning to end. It is this method that gives ArchiverFS its tiny footprint on the host system. Released first in 2002 ArchiverFS is now used by a large number of organizations around the globe, many being well-known brand names. When ArchiverFS moves an old file to archival storage, the file and its related directory structure are replicated to the archival storage totally with all permissions, qualities, and timestamps. As part of this file archiving method, ArchiverFS leaves behind a selection of stubs in place of any archived files make certain that end users maintain access that is seamless to content that is archived. This archival storage becomes a mirror image of the live file system but one that only contains the old unused files.

No database

This approach of not using a database to store files, file meta-data, or the locale of files that are archived is totally unique among other archiving products used for network file storage, SMB shares, as well as Windows file servers. It is this unique approach that makes ArchiverFS amazingly scalable and quite cost-effective.

Multi Petabyte systems

Several of MLtek clients have multi Petabyte file systems, but there is no need for a huge file system to profit from ArchiverFS. It provides all its clients with the most cost-effective method for archiving old files possible, being able to transfer huge quantities of files over the network to 2nd tier storage like a SAN or NAS while leaving only a small footprint on the host system. It enables a client to migrate, store and then end the life of old files that from unstructured from the storage system in a controlled method that is cost-effective thereby helping tackle tasks such as Data Protection compliance and GDPR.

Additionally

In addition to this exclusive method to file archiving software, only functionality already included natively in the Windows operating system is used. ArchiverFS does not need the installation of any other agents to workstations or servers, making implementation simply a breeze. ArchiverFS lets you move old files from a UNC pathway to any other UNC pathway over a network using a variety of measures including age, size, and type. The level you use to move your old files too can be:

• NAS device.
• CIFS share.
• VM.
• iSCSI volume.
• Cloud storage on Amazon AWS, Azure as well as Google Cloud.

As long as the target and source volumes are both formatted with NTFS and are shared to the network with SMB – then any data can be migrated and managed between the two.

Popular product

All of this makes ArchiverFS an incredibly unique and cost-effective method of managing both new as well as old files and it why this product is so popular among all our clients and customers. It is unlike any other method of managing files in other software products and is much more cost-effective to operate.
